The olive groves of Andria

The olive groves of Andria

Andria is the city of extra-virgin olive oil with its typical “racioppa” or “coratina”cultivars.

The coratina is a tree of medium size and vigour that adapts well to various soils, also by virtue of a good rhizogenic capacity, but its preferred growing environment is that of fertile and irrigated hilly land.

Still today the main activity of the city is agriculture, in particular the cultivation of the olive tree and the vine, followed by trade, craftsmanship and growing industries, especially manufacturing and clothing.

Being fairly resistant to all diseases in general, it also adapts well to organic farming.

Andria is also famous for burrata, invented in the early 1900s by Lorenzo Bianchino Chieppa and the typical sugared almonds created by Nicola Mucci in 1894.
